Rachael - As promised, below are some next steps and ideas to consider for our production. Let me know if you have any questions, or additions.
To review: our goal is to inspire the JFW sales team by introducing them to the passion behind Erik Kramer’s winemaking at Willakenzie Estate. As the first in a series of “expert interviews” for JFW, we will simultaneously produce 5x 2min audio “salescast” episodes (yet to be formally titled) and a single ~90s sales video intended for presentation to a wholesale audience.
During our scout on Friday, there were a handful of points that we discussed that would impact how we achieve our goal with Erik
1 & 2. Producing an intro and outro to include music choice for the salescast & a brief pitch/intro from Rachael, with a closing teaser for what’s to come.
3. Styling the background. We landed on a color background with some natural lighting to mimic window light on a dark wall. The color should be cool.
4. Lighting and Framing - I have some examples below with notes. Let me know your thoughts and we can discuss Monday/Tuesday
5. Deciding on whether we should use an “Eye-Direct” system to get Erik to speak to Rachael while also looking directly into the lens, and thus at the audience for the wholesale video
6. Stool/bar chair - can we use one from the tasting room? If not, we will need Rachael’s.
#1. MUSIC: This podcast series is going to be a great experiment in creatively connecting with and informing your salesforce. To successfully produce this “sales cast,” we will need to proactively hone in on the tone of its presentation. Like we discussed on Friday, the music, intro and cadence of the piece will have a great impact. Let’s start with music.
I use Musicbed.com.
If you are new to licensing music on this site, read this: 3rd Person’s Introduction to Musicbed.com
Take a browse through their site if you have time, and forward me anything of interest. In the meantime, keep an eye out for an email with a shared collection link for this project. There, I’ll add tracks (including the one from last year’s promotional video).
*Something to ask - do you want the same track for the podcast and the video? Does the original track from my video in 2018 fit? I’ve included the link here to 2018’s promo video as a reference.
#2. INTRO/OUTRO SCRIPTING: We touched a little on this. It’s the hook for the sales team to get them to understand why its important to listen to this series and what’s coming next. If we have this scripted before hand, we can record some versions of this on March 20th.
#3. BACKGROUND: Below are some of the seamless paper colors I mentioned. Take a look. I have highlighted two that I think would be well suited to this project based on Willakenzie’s Creative Intent, but I would love to get your input. Check out the website for larger swatches at SAVAGE PAPER
#4. LIGHTING & DIRECTION: Here are some examples. I have noted what aspect of direction each is referencing.
#5. THE EYE DIRECT SYSTEM & ERIK KRAMER: If we believe it is important for Erik to communicate directly and personally to the audience, and we want to achieve this without having to remind him to look into the lens, then we will need an eye direct. The rental would be ~$100 for the day and I will be able to confirm availability on Monday.
Here’s a link to the system: EYE DIRECT.
